On September 8th, 2017, Status of Women Canada announced $2.2 million dollars in funding for gender equality projects. Minerva BC was one of 7 organizations to receive funding in British Columbia. We are honored and excited to work alongside our allies in advancing women and gender equality.
This funding is part of an $18 million-dollar investment by the federal government to support grassroots organizations and engage 150 female leaders across the country to create a pan-Canadian network that supports gender equality efforts.
With this funding Minerva BC will launch a Tech Score Card as a way to benchmark the current state of gender parity in the BC technology sector and engage with leaders from the most influential companies in BC. Although BC has a diverse and rapidly growing technology sector, women remain under-represented in executive leadership and specialized technical roles.
True diversity is inclusive and measureable – we want to establish a benchmark for the BC tech industry and an open learning community to share research, best practices and recommendations that will lead to gender equality and greater economic benefit.
