Learning To Lead 2013

In late May, the Minerva Foundation hosted Learning to Lead™ 2013, our annual weekend leadership program that brings together Grade 11 students, emerging leaders (young and transitioning professionals) and business and community leaders from around the province to interact and learn from one another through a series of workshops and activities.

Seventy-two women and girls from across BC arrived at St. John’s College at the beautiful University of British Columbia campus, where they were organized into triads—groups of three, which included a Grade 11 girl, an emerging leader and a community leader. Throughout the weekend, triads engaged small and large group activities, and were encouraged to share their thoughts and reflections with one another.

Highlights from the weekend include individual personality typing courtesy of Insights Learning and Development, and two inspiring keynote presentations by Kirsten Sutton, Minerva Foundation Board Secretary and Managing Director of SAP Labs Canada, and Heather White, business speaker, adviser and founder of 2020 Communications.

Here’s what some of our participants had to say about their experience:

“The Minerva L2L conference was truly a wonderful and transformative experience. The sessions were expertly facilitated, the guest speakers inspiring, and the leadership content relevant and engaging. The opportunity to connect with women leaders from three generations makes L2L a unique event and provides women the opportunity to tell their stories and deeply connect with others. I would absolutely recommend this program – and I have been enthusiastically doing so ever since I returned from the conference!” – T. Schiewe, Emerging Leader 2013

“Learning to Lead was a life changing weekend for me. I came away feeling elevated – both in my heart and in my head… The women who were selected for this weekend were the greatest gift of all. They were open, vulnerable, giving, warm, considerate and brilliant. I had the honour of participating as a community leader and was awestruck in the depth and breadth of the participating leaders and most especially the Grade 11 girls.” – J. Schaeffer, Community Leader 2013

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, facilitators and organizers for their generous contributions – you’ve made this year’s Learning to Lead™ the best yet!
